I saw this Banana in flower in Belfast zoo..granted it was planted in the 'Rainforest Greenhouse' so it was in an ideal setting...but it got me thinking about the exotic nature of it, and whether its possible to grow soemthing similar here in Derry?...Well I did a wee bit of looking about and found these Hardy Japanese Bananas for sale, now i'd say these would looking super cool in a sheltered courtyard or sheltered back garden, I wouldn't fancy the big leaves chances of staying in good shape with a fierce breeze blowing through them, but in an urban back garden could be totally cool.
Further to this first set of pictures from the National Botanical Gardens in Dublin here's some more of things and plants that caught my eye on my recent visit there.
hope you enjoy them....everything looks better in glorious sunshine!!
