Recently I enjoyed a great day out at Castle Kennedy Gardens, just outside of Stranraer in SW Scotland....and wow...what a place! I was in toll with the family, so it wasn't just as a plantsman I visited but also as a father, and I'm glad to say the kids had a blast too.
Castle Kennedy Gardens are of a scale and composition I've never seen before. From the Monkey Puzzle Avenue, the Thuja Avenue, the Water Lilly Pond, the Walled Garden, the Champion Trees it had it all! add into that the romantic castle ruins and the 'new' castle....just amazing!
A wonderful 5 hour day trip with the kids, as we walked around there are loads of viewpoints and seating spots that the kids could sit and rest, add into that the Pine Cones, Mushrooms, Orchids and wildlife and the kids were entertained all day....

After reading so much about Lord Marshall and his work I was delighted to have made a visit to this world famous garden...We'll finish with a wee slide show below... but this is a garden you have to visit! I'm mad keen looking forward to going back in Azalea season....
