a plant thriving in my own back garden is the scented white lilac, (Syringa vulgaris Madame Lamoine) it flowers in early summer and has the most gorgeous scented flowers. Fast growing, quickly reaching a height of 6-8' it can be trimmed and maintained as a hedge even.
The double white flowers are large and super scented, and with the flowers being a pure white colour they stand up well against the fresh foliage colour.
I have it growing against a fence, and underplanted with Hostas so the whole foliage package looks well throughout the summer.
