This year we had great success with both the indoor and outdoor sown broad beans we started last Autumn, the ones we planted in a bed in the polytunnel started to flower in April, and were cropping in late May, the outdoor ones were on their second harvest in July. Due to this success I'm going to sow even more this Autumn.
The variety sown here is The Sutton Dwarf, this is a more compact variety, ideal for exposed sites or small gardens...so great for my wee wind tunnel of a garden! We've sprinkled some Mycorrhizal Fungii onto the seeds, and sown 1 to a fibre pot which has been filled with a multi-compost / Vermiculite mix.
