The wee garden area at the side of Clooney Community Centre has been fairly neglected recently, but since Autumn the After-Schools Club ran by Christopher Cooper in the Clooney Community Centre has been taking an active role in tidying up this space, Firstly they had Olympian Sally Brown do some planting in it, then the kids plated 500 daffodil bulbs in it, and have been doing weekly litter pics in the area, not the paths have all been re-edged, leaving the place much smarter and cleaner looking....hats off to the kids, they're taking real 'Pride in our place' . Thanks to Housing Executive Grounds Maintenance.
I Recently teamed up with inspirational Olympian Sally Brown at a recent event in Youth Action NI's centre in Clooney Estate, Waterside. Sally was there as an abassador from The Big Lottery to support the creative community work the folks in Clooney Estate Centre are doing and to inspire others with her charm, personality and amazing achievements....and I was made up to get the invite....I watched Sally and others over the summer and have been inspired by what herself and her fellow Olympians have achieved....
Whilst Sally was at the Heron Way Centre we planted a lovely winter flowering Skimmia as a long-term way of marking her visit....and the kids from Good Shepherd and Lisnagelvin Primary Schools also planted 200+ daffodil bulbs on the day too....(i think a bit of colour is far better than planting an auld tree!!)
Thanks to Sally for making the day really special for the youngsters, and good luck in the upcoming World Championships!!
