Daffodils are amazing...one of my favourite plants. They have an amazing ability to grow just about anywhere and they have an ability to make everyone smile....as everyone loves daffodils, we all look for them in the spring 'I saw my first daffodil this morning' can be heard the length of the land in the Spring. Well now is the time to be out planting.....every garden centre has them now, and a great range is available, so don't just buy a big bag, buy lots of smaller bags and plant a range - like these Tete a Tete which flower early February every year in my garden...

When your planting your bulbs plant them in clumps or groups, like this, dig a nice hole with spade and plant 4 or 5 in the hole, leave a wee bit of space between the bulbs (bulbs multiply as they grow so if you plant them too think they congest easily). The depth of the hole depends on the bulbs, but a good guide is to plant them twice as deep as their height (so if the bulbs is 4inches in size you'd dig the hole 8inches down), In my own garden I plant clumps of a wide range of daffodils, to ensure i have as long a Daffodil season as poss - they start in Feb and end in June for me....

If you plant bulbs too deep they don't flower very well or they may come up 'blind' where there is no flower, and over time the clumps will thicken and will require to be lifted, split up and then replanting allowing for space for new growth to fill.
Last year I planted over 8000, this year my target is 10000+, these volumes i'll planting in large clumps, drifts in school yards, parks, green spaces, however in my own I select the choice colours and plant them all over the place, in between fruit bushes, amongst roses, around the hen house, in pots...anyewhere theres soil basically....enjoy!

Look out for the Scented types, these are amazing in pots around the front door and on the patio....Sol D'or and PaperWhites are some to look out for!
