Sowing first early peas
It was with great delight that a delivery from At The Garden Gate came last week....for I know it contained the seeds of one of favourite kitchen garden crops...Peas! and more precise a variety called 'Kelvedon Wonder'> this is a super variety for early sowing and for cropping early. Now pease are big seeds, and they need a good drink before they start to sprout, so to speed the process along we soaked the seed in water for a week before sowing...this rapidly speeds up the process of germination and ultimately will give you crops faster. Soak the peas unitl you seed the wee root starting to poke out...
toilte roll tubes are ideal for larger seeds like peas and beans, the deep tube allows for a nice root system to develop, and being light cardboard you just plant the tube and all in the ground and it rots down....basically a cheap biodegradable pot. These were watered and placed in an unheated polytunnel.
