Verbascum are a fierce easy-to-grow plant, and thrive in drier soils, so they're ideal for sandy soils and for holiday homes and the likes.
The leaves are big and flat and smother weeds from the surroungding soil, and the flower spike can be 3' tall and is very strong- no where near as easily broke as a Foxglove, Gladiola or the likes.
For a great effect plant a clump of 3 together, once you have these established early each spring you can take root cuttings from them (just like Poppies and Mint) and these will flower the second year.
One definitely to try!
