We were busy keeping summer in our thoughts in Groarty Primary today, by doing some sowing of Sweet Pea seeds. Sweet pea seeds sown now will be ideal for planting out into their final positions in around 8 weeks or so, and will give earlier flowers than spring sown seeds. I sow 3 to a 10cm pot, just pressing the seed belwo the level of the compost. This variety is a dwarf sweet pea - Cupid Mix. Which will be ideal for the kids to plant into flowers pots and hanging baskets around thre school.
We also sowed a few other varieties of sweet peas (all in the same style of 3 seeds per pot), here we sowed some Beaujolias sweet Peas, specificially for the cutting garden in the school, this variety looks a cracker, and should give nice long stemmed sweet peas, ideal for the flower vases
we also sowed some highly scented Black Knight Sweet peas, again this one is for the cutting garden, and perhaps to grow aroudn the cage that goes around the school gas tank....I'm sure which a variety like this with its mad perfume we'll definitely find a spot for them somewhere in the school!!
We also did a Heriloom variety calles Parfumiere, this mega scented mixed type will be ideal for the kids to take home and grow in their own gardens, as in the school we grow enough for the school but also th ekids get to take plants hoem to continue the gardening adventure at home too
